MedU Collaborator Wins AAP Award

Congratulations to Glen Medellin, MD, FAAP, (CLIPP Editorial Board member) for receiving the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) 2013 Calvin (C.J.) Sia Community Pediatrics Medical Home Leadership & Advocacy Award.

Supported by the Calvin Sia Endowment, the award recognizes pediatricians who have demonstrated clinical excellence, community action, and advocacy for children. The October AAP News article adds:

“Dr. Medellin is an advocate for improved models of care for children in San Antonio and South Texas, where he holds leadership roles relevant to the education of medical students and residents. He transformed a traditionally focused palliative care program into the Comprehensive Care Clinic, which serves as a medical home for children with complex or chronic diagnoses. It extends the palliative care model from an end-of-life focus to an emphasis on patient-centered management and symptom relief by addressing the emotional, social and spiritual needs of the child and family.”

Dr. Medellin’s leadership roles in medical education include his work in MedU working groups for advanced organizers and team-based learning.
