DEVELOPMENTAL MILESTONES
(Birth to 5 years)
INSTRUCTIONS: Use this table of video clips (2 to 8 seconds each) to explore how children acquire motor, cognitive, and language skills from birth to age 5 years. Test your own knowledge of the milestones typically used by clinicians to assess a child’s development and know when to refer for further evaluation for possible delay.
  • To review all the milestones in one domain, click the corresponding circle at the top.
  • To review all the domains at a particular age, click the corresponding circle to the side.
  • A second click on the square will start the video clip.
  • Or quiz yourself! Just choose an age and domain at random and test your recall of what will be revealed when you select the square.

We would love to hear your feedback on the
Milestones Table. Submit your feedback here.

NOTE: In your studies you will encounter a variety of frameworks for presenting the developmental milestones. The division among and names of domains may differ, and the example tasks may change. In addition, the age of milestone achievement may vary depending on what study the table was based. Some tables will present milestones that 50% of children can perform at each specified age, while others will present milestones that 90% of children can perform. In our table, we present tasks that roughly 75% of children are able to perform at each age.
