MedU is Becoming Aquifer

Coming January 29

MedU is excited to announce that we are changing our name to Aquifer. When we founded MedU back in 2006, our focus was on providing innovative online learning for third-year medical students during their pediatric clerkship. Over the past ten years, we have grown to be so much more—and we want our name and our brand to better reflect who we are today, what we do, and our vision for the future. Aquifer is the perfect metaphor—we are your trusted, essential source for clinical learning. Our new learning management system, launched in July, raises the level of your students’ skills and knowledge and delivers learning wherever and whenever it’s needed.

Our new name provides an opportunity for more clarity and growth. Simplified course names will link the Aquifer brand to the quality content we provide—building better recognition and trust across our course offerings. The Aquifer brand allows us to be more inclusive of all healthcare professions learners, like Physician Assistants and Nurse Practitioners, who are so critical to health care delivery today.

What’s staying the same?

We’re still the same unique non-profit organization led by Aquifer’s academic consortium, dedicated to partnering with our academic consortium and national organizations to deliver trusted content—written by educators for educators—that is evidence-based, peer-reviewed, and continuously updated to support best practices in clinical education.

Our courses and your data remain untouched, providing the same great content, continuously updated by our Aquifer Consortium of medical educators. Your reports, rosters, and custom courses remain unchanged, right where you left them. And although our public website will be changing, all links to our learning management system, including your program-specific URL will not change.

What’s changing on January 29?

  • Simple, self-explanatory course names: Our old course-specific acronyms will be replaced with intuitive names: CLIPP will become Aquifer Pediatrics, fmCASES becomes Aquifer Family Medicine, etc. View the full list of our new course names here.

  • Our learning management system is getting a fresh new look. The user experience won’t change, but expect to see the Aquifer name, new course names, and a cleaner interface. And to connect the platform to our new brand, we’re calling it Aqueduct—the carrier of Aquifer’s essential learning.

  • Our website will change to Aquifer.org. After January 29, you’ll find our brand-new website at this address, filled with useful news, resources, and tools. Links to Med-u.org will redirect to Aquifer.org through the summer of 2018.

  • Bookmark Aquifer.org for sign in: If you sign-in to your courses at Med-u.org, you will automatically redirect to Aquifer.org. Please update your orientation materials and bookmarks.

  • User Profile updates: The first time you or your students sign in after January 29th you’ll be asked to update your user profile.  It’s a quick and easy step that will help us serve you better in the future.

We are excited about our new brand and look forward to spreading the word. We will continue to reach out to you and your registered students throughout the next month to ensure you will find the transition seamless. If you would like to learn more about our new brand, please view our brochure.

In the meantime, please feel free to contact us if you have any questions or concerns. And don’t forget—we love feedback, click here to send us yours.
