Subscriptions Home

MedU operates on a subscription model through the Institute for Innovative Technology In Medical Education, a 501(c)(3) organization established for the purpose of advancing medical education through the collaborative development, maintenance, and research of innovative computer-based programs.

Use of the Cases

The use of CLIPP, SIMPLE, and fmCASES virtual patient cases and WISE-MD modules is limited to individuals actively involved in the study, teaching, or practice of medicine as well as other healthcare fields. Student satisfaction with the cases and modules is very high. Our research shows students value the multimedia, interactivity, comprehensive approach, rich content, and focus on clinical reasoning the cases afford. Using MedU virtual patient cases in your clerkship provides a competitive advantage for your institution.

Subscription Bundling

InTIME wishes for each institution to benefit from the cost-saving opportunity bundling MedU virtual patient cases can provide. To realize these savings, we encourage institutions to work together across departments, through the bio-medical library, or through deans' offices to fill out a single Subscriber Agreement for the cases and determine a way to share the subscription costs.  Please review the Subscription Bundling Terms and Conditions to learn more.

Fee Structure

MedU Virtual Patient Cases are available by institutional or individual subscription.  Institutional subscriptions are for one year with fees based on total student enrollment, first- through fourth-years inclusive.*

How subscribing to MedU can save you money

By meeting the evolving needs of medical education efficiently and effectively, MedU virtual patient cases can actually save your clerkship money!

  • Using MedU virtual patient cases assists in meeting many of the accreditation standards put forth by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME), preserving time and money needed to track and meet the LCME requirements.
  • MedU virtual patient cases saves faculty time and departmental funds by offering educators opportunity to monitor student progress, freeing clerkship directors to support and remediate at-risk students and increasing the success rate and value of student learning.
  • Integrating MedU virtual patient cases into your clerkship meets the demands of increased class size with ease, replacing didactic lectures with high-quality, peer-reviewed material and providing more time to enhance the value of clinical precepting through faculty and student interactions.
  • Relying on MedU to keep your curriculum current enables institutions to allocate resources to other critical clerkship needs. Our project development groups and editorial boards are constantly refining the cases, ensuring the content and pedagogical methodologies remain up to date and aligned with national curricula.
  • Working from the platform of cases, MedU cases assist community preceptors in effectively delivering your curriculum. Save money on faculty development and allow your preceptors to focus their time with students.
  • The average per student cost for each set of MedU virtual patient cases, based on only third-year medical student use, is approximately $46.  This is comparable to the cost per student for the NBME Subject exam. In addition, subscriptions to CLIPP and fmCASES include a final exam specifically based on the content of CLIPP and fmCASES. We also offer a complimentary exam scoring service, saving you important administrative time and expense. We expect final exams to become available for our other sets of cases soon!
