FAQS & Pricing
What factors into the cost of virtual patient cases?
Our fees are comparable to the cost of a house officer's manual or review textbook. Like a textbook, virtual patient cases can remain valuable teaching tools only if they are kept current. Reviewing, revising, and updating the cases and teaching resources; revising and validating the final exam questions; ensuring the cases remain aligned with the nationally accepted curriculum; and creating multimedia all require a significant effort. Unlike a textbook, MedU virtual patient cases also must provide for the costs of running the servers; delivering the cases; providing timely user support and continuous access to the Internet; and maintaining custom software and log data.
Can I pay less if I require only a few cases?
As with purchasing a textbook, a subscription to MedU virtual patient cases provides access to the full content of the website and cases. Modifying the software and Web site to allow for variable user access would increase our costs considerably. In addition, the institutional subscription provides access for all medical school courses and residency programs using the institutional email, whose directors may choose to begin using the cases as well.
Can we expect the user fees to increase in the future?
The fees for the 2011-2012 academic year remain unchanged. For one set of virtual patient cases, the only way your school will experience a change in cost in the 2011-2012 academic year is if your institution's total student enrollment changed over last year. iInTIME directors have worked with business leaders to establish our current fees at a realistic level that will sustain MedU virtual patient cases for the foreseeable future. In addition, we are actively working with a number of outside organizations and businesses to establish financial relationships that will help sustain iInTIME. We continue to work hard NOT to increase fees!
What would the institutional fee be for third-year students?
To subscribe for specific students requires the purchase of individual subscriptions. Institutional subscriptions allow unlimited access to anyone who uses the school’s institutional email on file with us and who is engaged in the study, teaching, or practice of medicine. The use of total student enrollment, first-through fourth-years, provides the basis for our subscription fee structure.
What is the institutional price list?
Four Year Medical Schools
Total (four-year) undergraduate medical student enrollment determines the price tier in the table below. For four-year institutions who report enrollment to the AAMC, AACOM or AFMC, please use the Annual Fee Estimator which will also estimate discounts for purchasing multiple courses. For other four-year institutions, the price list below can be used as a guideline but please contact us for specific information and pricing.
| Total (4-year) Medical School Enrollment | Annual Institutional Subscription Fee per Course for CLIPP, SIMPLE, fmCASES and WISE-MD | Annual Institutional Subscription Fee for CORE |
| 199 or less | $2,000 | $1,000 |
| 200 - 299 | $3,000 | $1,500 |
| 300 - 399 | $4,000 | $2,000 |
| 400 - 499 | $5,000 | $2,500 |
| 500 - 599 | $6,000 | $3,000 |
| 600 - 699 | $7,000 | $3,500 |
| 700 or more | $8,000 | $4,000 |
Note: The fee structure displayed above does not present the cost savings of bundling subscriptions to multiple course into a single purchase. Please see the Annual Fee Estimator for an estimate of the annual fee for multiple course subscriptions for your institution.
Allied Health Profession Institutions
For allied health profession schools and other schools that do not match the 4 year medical school model, please contact us for specific information and pricing. For programs of less than 30 students, see the FAQ below "What if I have a small group of students?"
What if I have a small group of students?
Individual subscriptions may be a cost-effective way to provide MedU courses to a small group of students. A 90-day subscription to one course is $30. A one year subscription is $50 for one course. Individual subscriptions do not provide access to instructor tools to assist in integrating the cases into your program or student use data which can be used to evaluate student usage and document curriculum coverage.
We are testing a Small Group Subscription for the 2011-2012 academic year for allied health programs with less than 30 students. For those groups, annual subscription fees are $500 per course plus $50 per student. The $500 provides access to the instructor tools and student use data for your group. For a program with 20 students subscribing to one course, the cost will be $500 + (20 * $50) or $1500. Unlike our larger institutional subscriptions where any student at the institution can register to use the cases, a Small Group administrator must provide a specific list of students and only those students will have access to the cases. For programs larger than 30 students, the institutional pricing schedule and offering is more flexible and cost effective.
