A Collaborative Approach to Medical Education

MedU Virtual Patient Cases & Modules

"CLIPP cases are interactive, virtual patient cases which comprehensively address the learning objectives of the Council On Medical Student Education in Pediatrics (COMSEP) curriculum. Developed by a national collaborative of pediatric educators, these cases satisfy LCME ED-2 requirements and provide students with standardized exposure to fundamental issues in pediatric health care".

Drs. Mike Dell & Sherilyn Smith, CLIPP Editors-in-Chief

"The SIMPLE cases have been authored, reviewed and pilot tested by a wide range of clerkship directors from diverse medical schools. The cases address common core problems in internal medicine that every medical student should learn over the course of the third year clerkship. The interactive online format is appealing to both learners and faculty, and the cases help ensure that every student has the opportunity to see important core topics".

Karen E. Hauer, MD, CDIM President

"fmCASES has been developed by leading medical educators from family medicine, reinforcing the guidelines of the Family Medicine Clerkship Curriculum and providing standardized content and feedback in an innovative and engaging way for today's learners".

Scott Fields, MD, MHA, STFM Immediate Past President

"WISE-MD consists of a number of multimedia presentations on common surgical conditions including biliary track disease, colon cancer, appendicitis, hernia, etc.  The modules are used in surgical clerkships to enhance traditional clinical educational modalities.  The availability of the learning modules through the web enables students to access high quality content at any time and at any location.  This is particularly advantageous for programs that have students distributed throughout various services in multiple hospitals. Many of the 33 medical schools that have incorporated the modules into their clerkships have reported that the WISE-MD modules satisfy the LCME requirement to provide some uniformity to the curriculum for their students".

Thomas Riles, MD, WISE-MD Executive Director

Save Your Clerkship Money!

MedU operates on a subscription model through the Institute for Innovative Technology In Medical Education (iInTIME).By meeting the evolving needs of medical education efficiently and effectively,  MedU virtual patient cases save your clerkship money!
  • Using MedU virtual patient cases assists in meeting many of the accreditation standards put forth by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME), preserving time and money needed to track and meet the LCME requirements.
  • MedU virtual patient cases saves faculty time and departmental funds by offering educators opportunity to monitor student progress, freeing clerkship directors to support and remediate at-risk students and increasing the success rate and value of student learning.
  • Integrating MedU virtual patient cases into your clerkship meets the demands of increased class size with ease, replacing didactic lectures with high-quality, peer-reviewed material and providing more time to enhance the value of clinical precepting through faculty and student interactions.
  • Relying on MedU to keep your curriculum current enables institutions to allocate resources to other critical clerkship needs. Our project development groups and editorial boards are constantly refining the cases, ensuring the content and pedagogical methodologies remain up to date and aligned with national curricula.
  • Working from the platform of cases, MedU cases assist community preceptors in effectively delivering your curriculum. Save money on faculty development and allow your preceptors to focus their time with students.
  • The average per student cost for each set of MedU virtual patient cases, based on only third-year medical student use, is approximately $46.  This is comparable to the cost per student for the NBME Subject exam. In addition, subscriptions to CLIPP and fmCASES include a final exam specifically based on the content of CLIPP and fmCASES. We also offer a free exam scoring service, saving you important administrative time and expense.
